Granollers vs Monaco shootout

Tennis | 06-11-11

There were two big shocks in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Valencia Open 500 when Marcel Granollers defeated Juan Martin del Potro and Argentina's Juan Monaco got the better of favourite and number one seed David Ferrer.

Ferrer looked to be fighting his way back into the semi-final with Monaco after losing the first set 7-5. He comfortably took the second set 6-1 and just when you expected him to take the final set, back came Monaco to win the vital third set 6-4 and set up an unexpected final here in the Spanish sun.

Granollers vs Monaco will be an interesting match as the public will know little about each player. But this is what makes it all the more interesting and it really shows just how much strength in depth there is in the mens game when you look at the quality of play that these two players have produced this week.
