Down to the last eight

Tennis | 05-01-12

The latest ATP event is underway in Doha and we are already down to the quarter-final stages. Many of the best players in the world have been present in this event with over a million dollars in prize money up for grabs. The Swiss Tennis legend and three time Doha winner Roger Federer has been very impressive so far and has recorded straight sets victories in his opening two matches.

This tournament will prove to be vital preparation for the upcoming first slam of the year with the Australian Open looming large. If there is one player who needs a good tournament victory then it is Rafael Nadal. He has also reached the last eight and is the favourite to progress to the final. However his injuries last season cost him the world number one position and he also had to endure watching Novak Djokovic dominate the majors.

It was seen as automatic that Nadal would challenge Federer for the all time record of slams but that record seems a long way off now that Djokovic is firmly on the scene. But these ATP events do provide vital springboards for confidence and fitness and so they are crucial in the tennis calender and especially the ones that are pretty close to slam events. Who is your money on here in Doha?
