Anyone who has been watching the Darts this week at Frimley Green will have been amazed at the fightback by Dave Chisnell last night. He looked slightly overawed against Hankey. He was missing great chances to win legs and was missing the doubles. Although it has to be said that Hankey was in pain with his throwing arm so this may have had an effect the longer the match went on.
As the legendary Bobby George used to say….. “trebles for show…. doubles for dough”. At 4-1 down in sets it looked over for Chisnell. I don’t follow Darts all year round but the word is that this kid is good. I may have to revise my opinion of the only possible winners coming from O’Shea, Hankey, Waites, Fitton and Adams.
Dave Chisnell is a potential winner in my book on one condition……he toughens up on his doubles when under pressure. It will be interesting to see how he copes against Tony O’Shea in the semi-finals. Will the Hankey match be the breakthrough that Chisnell was looking for or will it drain him physically and mentally for the semi?
I think that all sportsmen have that pivotal game in thier careers where they move on mentally after a win of this magnitude. The reason why I think that Chisnell will gain from it is because he closed the match out and looked stronger the more it went on.
But there is no doubting the fact that Chisnell while looking fantastic at times with his scoring including one set where he took three legs in a combined total of 37 darts which is a staggering 12.33 darts per leg, was very suspect on doubles.
Hankey also slipped off the boil after the break and played too many duff legs to let Chisnell back in. So it will be interesting to see the semi and it has happened before where players with very little world championship experience have won the title………..Deller….David and Klaasen to name just three.
So Dave Chisnell is now a potential winner in my book even though three of the big five are still in and I expect both Waites and Adams to progress tonight.
See you soon
