All of the leading betting firms seem to think that the 2010 BDO World Darts final between Dave Chisnell and the 2007 World Champion Martin Adams is too close to call.
I said at the start that I could only see five players winning it, although I must say that I don’t follow darts regularly. I was in fact using last years form. One person who wasn’t on that list was Dave Chisnell. He is unseeded but that is basically down to him not being able to travel to foreign tournaments.
A shortage of experience usually casts a major doubt on a players ability to handle the mental pressure of being on stage. Chisnell has wobbled at several key stages of the tournament but his scoring has been fantastic.
To dispose of Fitton, Hankey and O’Shea is a remarkable achievement and everybody is still buzzing over his 37 dart set against Hankey. It looked ominous yesterday when he trailed 2-0 to O’Shea but then took six out of the next seven sets.
The last two legs to win the match included an amazing 164 checkout with two treble nineteens and the bull. He then took the match with a brilliant check-out of 121.
Although it has to be said that Martin Adams also has a past history of having a dodgy temperament when the heat is on. Who can forget his win against Phil Nixon in the 2007 final when he led 6-0 and was clawed back to 6-6 before the finally won 7-6.
Yesterday was shaping up to be a repeat of that against Welshman Martin Phillips. Adams led 4-0 and 5-1 before Phillips staged a comeback and was one leg away from making it 5-5 before Adams sealed the deciding leg of the set to win 6-4.
I think that it will be a fascinating final but I am revising my view of this and had to even before the semi-final. Chisnell has the look of a winner and if he can stay with Adams in the early stages and not give him a lead then I think that he will win.
Will be a fascinating final and I can’t wait
See you soon
Carl
