Well done AP McCoy

Other Sports | 20-12-10
It is always great to see people who have done good things over a very long space of time get rewarded by an honour like the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. The look of delight on Phil Taylor’s face when he came second was a real joy…..imagine if he had won it! But this year has seen some great candidates. Lee Westwood becoming the world number 1 in golf, David Haye was another strong contender as was Graeme McDowell. But Tony McCoy for me was a great winner for what he has done in horse racing over the past years. To follow Ryan Giggs last year was great but it wasn’t one that I predicted as a jockey tends not to win it. McCoy realised his dream this year when he finally won the Grand National and that has been a long time in coming…..too long. But watching that program made us think about the great sporting heroes that past on this year. People like Bill McClaren, Alex Higgins and Malcolm Allison will long be remembered. I used to watch the Sports personality program every year but I stopped watching it of late because it seemed to lack something for me. However it is great that some sports have started to get recognised and it is just a shame that you have to be as great as AP McCoy in horse racing in order to get recognition. It is the same in darts, Phil Taylor has fifteen world titles but yet the best he has done has been to come second. I guess that some sports simply do not capture the public imagination.
