Snooker needs Power Snooker

Other Sports | 08-11-10
I watched my first match of Power Snooker last week and I must say that I really enjoyed it. In my opinion, this is what the game needs as it is really starting to die a death in the UK in terms of attendances. Once that reaches a critical stage then sponsors will dry up and the game really will be dead in the UK. So Power Snooker is to Snooker what one day games are to Cricket and they will bring new viewers back to Snooker I am sure of that. The entire match is timed and has no frames and the winner is who scores the most points. The match that I saw had some tremendous pots from some fantastic positions which led me to believe that the game was being playing not on a conventional table with conventional pockets. There are nine balls in a diamond shape each with a numerical value which increases if those balls are potted in certain pockets. The naturally faster players will have the advantage but the game may also produce some new faces. Players who are maybe not cutting it on the traditional poker circuit and who are lower down the rankings but who are fast and are tremendous potters. I am sure that there will be plenty of these players ranked 50 and below who will prove their worth at Power Snooker. I am one of the people who used to love watching Snooker but I can only get motivated to watch the latter stages of the World Championships these days and that usually means the last few frames of the final.
