Key factors that influence a race
Other Sports | 27-07-11
There are several key factors that govern the outcome of a horse race and these factors go towards the chances of each horse winning that race. Firstly we look at form as form is indicative of many things least of which are class, speed, fitness and confidence in the stable. Good overall and recent form is vital to assessing any horse’s chances of winning a race. Another big factor above and beyond overall and recent form is the going. If a horse simply has no experience of winning or doing well over a certain type of going then this will seriously impede on its chances of winning.
There are three more factors that are involved and these are the jockey and whether or not they have the necessary experience and also the trainer. If a trainer has a poor record at a certain track or overall in terms of the percentage of winners that they find then his lowers confidence in the trainer and will thus affect any tissue price that you can come up with. There is also one other key factor as well that you need to be aware of and this is to do with the distance that a horse has run over before.
You will no doubt have heard of the old adage of “course and distance”. Well essentially this means a horse that has done well over this particular course and over the same distance. This is a highly thought of criteria when it comes to handicapping and rating horses. Now that we have looked at the key criteria then I will be assessing each one in more detail and how that can be related to odds.
