High speed Snooker in Manchester

Other Sports | 13-11-11

The 2011 Power Snooker Masters takes place in Manchester on the 19th-20th November and this promises to be one of the most exciting events of the 2011-2012 season. All of the the top players are taking part including World Champion John Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan and three other former World Champions in Neil Robertson, Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy.

Power Snooker is very similar to normal Snooker but with the added thrill of the entire game being played over 30 minutes. So there are no frame scores and just one 30 minute match where the goal is to score as many points as possible in that time period.

There are also interesting little rules as well like the "power zone" for example. If the cue ball is struck from within this zone then any ball potted counts double and even quadruple during a power play. A "power play" begins when a player pots the "power ball" and this power play lasts for two minutes. Clearly this form of Snooker favours fast potting players but it is great entertainment and very exciting to watch.
