Can the boxing world stomach a Klitschko-Haye rematch?
Other Sports | 04-07-11
I never really expected David Haye to beat Vladimir Klitschko at the weekend but I wasn’t happy to see him give such a lame excuse to all of the people watching both ringside and at home. The excuse of the broken toe is just that…..an excuse. In my opinion then this is either trying to cover up the defeat or to try and manufacture a rematch. Haye claimed that the “injury” prevented him from throwing his big bombs……I would like him to explain to me how he goes about landing this big shots when Klitschko refused to be drawn in and simply picked him off with his extra reach and his constant jab?
The facts are blatant……Haye is a cruiserweight who has never fully made the transition to heavyweight and the fighters that he has beaten at this weight have been mediocre and one only has to look at Valuev, Ruiz and Harrison as proof of that. Haye was out thought, out jabbed, out boxed and out manoeuvred for twelve entire rounds. He is not capable of beating Klitschko and it is obvious that he knows how to beat Haye. I certainly wouldn’t pay to watch any rematch as I gave Haye only a punchers chance against Klitschko. All the pre-fight hype fell flat as it was clear early on that Haye had to land a knock-out blow to win the fight. Klitschko is far more mobile than Valuev and is also a smarter fighter. If Haye can squeeze another £10 million from a rematch or a fight with Vitali Klitschko then he will have succeeded and boxing is after all a business. But Haye clearly does not have enough weapons in his arsenal to beat Vladimir Klitschko and the boxing public know that.
