Its looking like Jenson now

Motor Sport | 08-10-09
With two grand prix to go, it would be a brave man to bet against Jenson Button winning the title now. A 14pt lead and only 20 to play for as a maximum. Also he is way ahead on actual wins having won 6 grand prix to the 3 of Vettel and the 2 of Barrichello. So even if they tie with him, he still wins on countback so they have to amass 15 pts more than Button over the space of two races......that is a very tall order. All Button has to do is coast around and come 4th or 5th and make it almost impossible for Vettel and Barrichello to catch him. I still think that it may go down to the final race but I think the wrong guy won on Sunday in Japan with regards to Button being denied the title. Vettel was 25pts behind Button anyway and is still 16pts behind him now. I think that the next question is, will Brawn be one hit wonders on the Grand Prix circuit? I think the answer to that question is a resounding "no" and so does Jenson Button when you hear him talk. We have had pretenders to the throne on the past with Jaguar promising big things. But its about time that another team rivalled the prolonged dominace of Ferrari and McLaren. There have been critics who have said that the early successes by Brawn were based on a stroke of good luck with their car design and that their double defuser should have been banned. I expect Brawn to fight for the constructors title next season but I dont expect their drivers to be one and two like this year. They wont have the £100 million or so from Honda to fall back on next year so that will be a blow. In fact next year could be one of the most open championship races in memory and it may be difficult to pick a winner at this stage. In fact had it not been for the two Brawn drivers both picking up penalties at Suzuka then Button would have been even closer to winning the title if not World Champion already. see you soon Carl "The Dean" Sampson
