I am aware of at least two professional punters who work in running betting on horses. Their method of operation is based around calculating how a certain race is going to be run.
I have never worked this way personally but it does take an awful lot of work to do this and I know that these guys eat, sleep and breathe the sport 24/7 which does seem to be indicative of any professional gambler these days.
But this is just another indication of how the professionals do not look to take on the professional odds compilers head on. The smart way is to look to swerve their skills and bypass them.
This is what many professionals do, in this instance these two guys are assessing form but in a totally different way to the masses. They are looking at horse race data and trying to look at how horses will run in given races based on certain criteria.
So what are these criteria? Well how the horse has run before is a good clue. Some horses like to lead and make the pace and others like to hold up at the back. The composition of the field also dictates how a race will be run as well.
Then we have individual tactics and the going and all in all it is something of a complex calculation and a rather inexact science. But it can be done and I have seen it done first hand, these guys bet just prior to the start and then look to back or lay in play based on how the horse in question is running.
So they manage to obtain with a very good ratio of success situations where a horse that they have backed at say 3.00 can be laid at something less than 3.00 at some stage in the race.
I asked them how they got around the problem of delayed pictures and they informed me that they had cut-off points in the actual race itself of around the 1/2 to 2/3 mark. I love this method of operation because it is creative and this is how you make money from sports betting in the modern era….by being creative.
see you soon
