Too much expected of Rory Mcilroy

Golf | 07-08-11
I have followed sports and sports betting now for a long time and I have seen more than my fair share of stunning performances. While it is clear that Rory Mcilroy is a very special talent, the hype surrounding him has been way over the top. But this just stems from the fact that most people overreact in sport and assume that something will either keep on happening or will never happen whichever the case may be. It happened with Chelsea last season when they romped to a huge lead in the Premiership with some stunning wins. By the end of the year they were trailing United and never recovered. This week sees one of the biggest tour events in the states kick off and we head into the final round today with world number one Luke Donald still in contention. I think it seems only a matter of time before Donald wins a major but we have heard that before somewhere. When it comes to winning majors then a lot depends on not only what you do but also someone else. You may have a great tournament and shoot 65, 69, 69 and 70 and finish -15 but if someone shoots one better then you finish second. There are a lot of truly great players down the years who never won a major but that still makes them great players. I do not believe that you have to win a major to be considered a great player. What better example than Colin Montgomerie. The guy was a golfing colossus in his pomp with an impressive Ryder Cup record and numerous European order of merits and titles.
