Can Mcilroy beat the record of Nicklaus?

Golf | 16-07-11
The total of 18 golf majors is something that stands alone in the history books of world records. But in all of my years of betting on sport and following sport then history is not as certain as we think. I think for anyone to even think that it is a certainty that Rory Mcilroy will beat the total of 18 majors is foolish. There are far too many things that can come to scupper a career and winning 18-19 majors is going to take a very long time. It isn’t like tennis where if you get to the top and really excel then you can at least be assured of many slams. With only three players at the top of the men’s game in tennis in terms of winning slams then the rest will not get a look in. However the winning of majors in golf is different because any golfer in the event has the capability to string four rounds together and take the title and so there is far more luck involved in winning a major than a slam. I opposed Mcilroy at the Open because I felt that his price had been contracted after what happened at Congressional. He is currently level par and I may lose the bet because with the field being so condensed then he is only four shots off the pace. But with the large luck factor involved then winning just two majors a year will be an amazing feat for any golfer and neither Nicklaus nor Woods achieved that.
