The big Saturday action

Football | 20-01-12

Chelsea go into a pivotal few weeks where a bad run of form at the wrong time could see their chances of a top four finish and a Champions League place seriously undermined. The football is not flowing at the bridge at the moment but past managers have certainly been sacked under Abramovich for achieving more than what Villas-Boas has so far. In fact one could argue that the only thing that has kept Villas-Boas in a job so far is the fact that Chelsea have had so many managers in such a short period.

The Blues take on the very impressive Norwich City at Carrow Road and The Canaries coach Paul Lambert has done wonders with the club this season and it is appearing ever likely that they will not be relegated. Mark Hughes will get his first chance to record a league win as his QPR side take on fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic.

Meanwhile another side down at the bottom are Wolves who will be looking to bounce back after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by neighbours Birmingham City in midweek. This is when times really get tough now for the clubs at the bottom. You can never compensate for points that have already been lost and this is why it is so difficult for a team to drag itself away from the bottom three after Christmas and is why so many teams that have been bottom of the league at the New Year have ended up going down.
