£400k per week Ronaldo?
Football | 13-06-11
So Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that he would need £400k/week to come and play in England for Manchester City because of the difference in tax laws. That would make him the second highest paid footballer in the world after Lionel Messi who with everything thrown in earns a reported £27 million per year or around £540,000/week. These are staggering figures and how long will it be before someone earns £1 billion per year.
In dollar terms then Messi isn’t far short of it now and surely it is only a matter of time. The super clubs of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United have such staggering revenues that they can afford to pay it. Now Manchester City with their mega rich owners are coming into the same financial category. There are staggering amounts of money involved in football these days and you only have to look at Premier League prize money and Champions League prize money to name but two.
The ticket prices are going up every year and the big clubs are global brands and make untold millions every year from sales of merchandise. It isn’t any wonder that they go on lucrative tours to the far east where demand for these teams is high. It then knocks on to the crazy wages that they can afford to pay these players. To think that all these guys have to do to get the money that they do is play football then it is a sad situation for the world that we live in.
