Liverpool and City go head to head
Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their absolute horror show away at Bolton in the league on Saturday by getting the result that they need that takes them to the Carling Cup final at Wembley. They caused a surprise in the 1st leg at the Etihad Arena when they beat Manchester City 1-0. The Sky Blue half of Manchester have been less than convincing though in recent weeks and elimination on Wednesday from the Carling Cup would be a blow for a team that desires trophies.
Elimination at the hands of United in the FA Cup was bad enough and being 3pts ahead in the league is still no guarantee of a trophy there either. They have already had Champions League elimination and so City are far from guaranteed to take a trophy this season. Roberto Mancini is under constant pressure at that club and the owners will expect the title or Champions League next season just like they do at clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Manchester City will rightly take their place on the list of European super clubs shortly and that spells bad news for the other Premier League clubs who will be left picking up the pieces. City were less than impressive in victory at the weekend against Tottenham and could have easily lost at home again. Liverpool though will surely bounce back with a better performance than at Bolton and that could be enough to see them through.
