Chelsea take a big step

Football | 31-01-10
Chelsea's 2-1 win at Burnley yesterday moved them 4pts clear at the top of the Premier League. What was also significant was that John Terry played and he scored the winner with eight minutes to go. With Arsenal playing Manchester United today and Chelsea playing Hull City coming up then Chelsea could be 6pts clear of they win that match and either Arsenal win or draw today. Getting Drogba back early from the African Cup of Nations will be a huge boost. Actually speaking of Burnley, that's four defeats out of four now for new manager Brian Laws. Welcome to the Premier League Brian. But it always amazes me how a manager can get a job after being sacked from another. He gets sacked from Sheffield Wednesday who are a full league lower than Burnley and are in danger of dropping into the 3rd tier of English football and then he gets a job with a Premier League side and the prospect of keeping them in the division. I think that Burnley are in real trouble now and if they go down then previous manager Owen Coyle may have to keep away from Burnley for a while and this will especially be the case if his new club Bolton stay up. I think now that when you look at the league table in the Premier League that the relegation places will be between the bottom seven. I think teams like Sunderland , Stoke and Blackburn will amass enough points from where they are in the league already for them to stay up. Teams like Hull, Wolves and Burnley are in real trouble but then you expect them to be before the season starts. Portsmouth have been something of a surprise after they won the cup in 2008 but then again we have seen some big high profile slides in the past......namely Newcastle, Leeds and Nottm Forest.
