So the lead at the top of the table is now just 1pt, so much for John Terry’s hopes of being well clear by Christmas. I think that this is a rather unusual league season in that the points seem more evenly spread out. But Everton is always a hard place to go to.
Unluckily for Chelsea, they were playing Everton now and not earlier in the season when they were struggling. Not only that but Louis Saha is back and on form. Manchester United came away with a good result last night drawing 1-1 at Aston Villa.
Having Nani sent off so early and going a goal behind, Alex Ferguson would have been happy with that and especially after seeing Chelsea lose. But in this topsy turvy league season, Arsenal could be on the brink of being back in it.
They beat Liverpool 1-0 at The Emirates and that takes them just 6pts behind the leaders. The key thing is that Arsenal don’t have to play anymore top sides and they could close that gap by the final day of the season.
It’s amazing how fortunes are shifting at the bottom. Wolves completed a rather unexpected double over Spurs last night winning 1-0 and West Ham had a great result beating in form Birmingham 2-0 at Upton Park.
Both results moved both teams 4 places up the table and now Bolton and Burnley are in the bottom three. Those results also leave Portsmouth 8pts adrift of the safety line and that is a lot at this stage of the season.
All the disruption at the club is bound to affect the players and it is going to take something superhuman now from Pompey to survive. I am not surprised though, I have seen it numerous times when a successful manager leaves a club then the stability leaves with them.
Alan Curbishly at Charlton, Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth, Big Sam at Bolton etc.
See you soon
