Can Arsenal come back from this?

Football | 28-02-11
There is now a huge question mark over whether Arsenal can come back from the crushing defeat in the Carling Cup yesterday. It wasn’t that they lost, it was a combination of getting so close and then the manner of the defeat with the 90th minute mix up between goalkeeper and defender that gave a gift for Obafemi Martins to seal a 2-1 win. Youth can be an advantage sometimes but one of the things about youth is that they have no experience of crushing disappointment. There is an old saying in England that goes “that which does not break us makes us stronger”. This is true but Arsenal have some huge games coming up and now they could have to go to Manchester United in the FA Cup and Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League. It was a great final to watch but Arsenal missed Fabregas and Walcott for sure. What is going to make it worse now for Arsenal is that it will crank up the pressure for their remaining games of the season and Arsenal will be under even greater scrutiny. I am sure that there will be a clamour now for Arsenal to buy some big signings but that simply isn’t Wenger’s style. He trusts his players but they do have a fragility that sides like United and even Chelsea despite their mid season blip simply do not have. You would not imagine either of these clubs surrendering a 4-0 lead to anyone but yet Arsenal did just that.
