Ancelotti on the brink
Football | 21-02-11
After yesterday’s defeat in the FA Cup to Everton then I now firmly believe the Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is only one Champions League exit away from not being Chelsea manager next season. If he goes then Roman Abramovich will have all summer to replace him and would it be impossible for Jose Mourinho not to be Chelsea manager next season?
I think that this is more possible than many people think and realise. Let us look at the facts; Mourinho will probably be forced out of the Bernabeu for two big reasons. These are that he has had fall outs with the Real big wigs and also should he fail in the Champions League and La Liga then he would almost certainly be out of the door in the summer. They are 5pts behind Barcelona at the moment so Real are not a favourite to win the league.
Also one has to understand Mourinho’s mindset; he is a glory hunter who has expressed an inclination to come back to England. But which big clubs would he come back to? Well it looks as though Kenny Dalglish will be given the Liverpool job for next season. Arsene Wenger is very unlikely to leave Arsenal. Harry Redknapp will still be at Tottenham and so for me this only leaves Chelsea, United and City. Alex Ferguson will decide to leave Old Trafford but no word has been forth coming yet so you would have to assume that he will still be at United next season.
One person who is unlikely to be around is Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea would have a squad good enough to compete for all the honours and Mourinho would know that. Manchester City would have the finances but if boss Roberto Mancini delivers a top four finish and Champions League football then will he be shown the door……not if a top four finish was the owners target. So this leaves Chelsea and if Roman and Jose can patch up their differences and Abramovich is prepared to pay him enough then that could entice Mourinho to make a return. But then again if he is prepared to return to Chelsea then he may also be prepared to return to Inter as well…..possibly.
