With five English sides still being in contention for a European trophy going into March then the time has come to start wondering if any of them have the credentials to go all the way.

With all due respect to Fulham you would have to say no. I predicted that they would lose to Shakhtar Donestk and they won 3-2 on aggregate. But how many times can they win against the odds?

They will start as underdogs again against Juventus and even if they cause a shock again, someone somewhere will beat them before the final. The squad and manager although talented is too small and the loss of Danny Murphy for the first game with Juventus will be a big blow.

You have to say that technically Arsenal can win the Champions League. But they have got themselves back into contention in the league through default as other teams have dropped points. They just cannot perform against the really top sides in big games and that is unlikely to go away if they draw a huge club in the later stages.

Chelsea are now a worry, no Ashley Cole and Petr Cech for weeks and their captain John Terry isn’t playing well and who can blame him. I don’t think that Manchester City would have scored four goals against a fully fit Chelsea defence.

My favourite for a European trophy out of the five that are left is Liverpool. They play Lille in the last 16 of the Europa League and are coming back into form. Gerrard and Torres have returned and although they will not be back to full sharpness, they will have both had good rests.

Live betting on the European competitions will be very interesting and I always look forward to this time of the year. Once the teams reach the last 8 stage and the quality sides are left then the competitions really hot up.
