Well I said it at the start of the tournament, during the tournament itself and now here we are at the quarter-final stage of the Cricket World Cup and here England are shortly to play Sri Lanka. The winner of that tie will play South Africa or New Zealand for a place in the semi-final. England have the best half of the draw for sure. There is no India, no Australia and no fast improving Pakistan. England beat South Africa in the group stages and so they are only two wins away from appearing in their first final since 1992. I thought that before the tournament that they were mentally shot to pieces after such a long tour of Australia. But this could galvanise them into one big effort and they do have the confidence of winning the 20/20 World Cup and The Ashes. I thought that they looked jaded in the group stages and one would argue that teams in that state of mind do not go on to win the World Cup. However three one day games can be won by anyone that is left in the tournament and so England have a chance. I predicted either India or Sri Lanka at the start of the tournament and so I suppose that I had better stick to that choice. So I suppose that England can win the World Cup but it would be utterly amazing to me if they did. Cannot wait for India vs Australia game though as that should a cracker.
