It is already being billed as the title decider by some people. Sunday’s big showdown between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge will be attracting huge attention. This will be their first meeting since the Community Shield game that opened the league season at Wembley in which Chelsea won on penalty kicks.
Make no mistake about it, Chelsea are hurting from not winning the title for three seasons and then losing the Champions League final (today’s video) to United so cruelly on penalties. So much was promised during the Mourinho era and going three seasons without a league title or Champions League win wasn’t on the agenda.
I think it is very premature to call this the “title decider”, the league title race would be a very boring one if it all came down to one single match in November. Even if Chelsea win this game and go five points clear, how can it be decided? The big four or five clubs all have the ability to take points away from each other.
The latest football betting odds for this game on bwin betting are Chelsea at 1.95, Manchester United at 3.75 and the draw at 3.30. There are also a whole host of other football bets as well on this match and don’t forget to take advantage of the bwin live betting service.
Both sides have come off the back of good results in the Champions League this week despite them both drawing. Chelsea got a good 2-2 draw away to Atletico Madrid while Manchester United left it late coming from 3-1 down with six minutes to go to draw 3-3 against CSKA Moscow.
The news this week was that Rio Ferdinand will be out for up to six weeks, that will be a major blow to the Champions and history tells us that United do not fare as well when Ferdinand and Vidic are split up. I think what the people mean who say that this is the “title decider” is that a Chelsea win could really lay the benchmark for the rest of the season.
A five point lead could easily turn into eight or nine or ten and with Chelsea looking a more settled side this season then that will be hard for Manchester United to match. But even though I said that Chelsea would be my tip this season for the title, I am now beginning to see Arsenal as a serious potential threat to what many people were calling a two horse race this season.
See you soon
Carl
