Here on the bwin sports blog I want to introduce a new section that reviews gambling books. Having read more than most then I think that I would be best placed to critique some of the material.

1. Gambling Theory and Other Topics

Author………………………Mason Malmuth

Published………………….1987

Publishing Com………..2+2

You just know that anything that is written by Mason Malmuth will be good. The man has a reputation for writing excellent gambling related books. Do not let the publishing date put you off, there have been numerous reprints since then and the version that I have is from 1999.

There is loads of data in this book concerning poker and this makes the book valuable for any poker player and sports bettor alike. The theory of self weighting and non self weighting strategies is worth the price of the book by itself.

I do think though that the value of the book has diminished over the years unless Mason has brought out a later version than my 1999 one. If I had written this review for this book a few years ago then I would have awarded it maximum marks.

The book addresses why certain people win at gambling while others don’t. It also looks at areas like bankroll management, card counting systems and even how and when to re-buy into poker tournaments.

The entire book when read and studied properly should really give a firm grounding with any person who wants to start a career in sports betting and gambling or is even just interested in making it a serious hobby.

I have always liked the way how Mason Malmuth writes and his books along with those of David Sklansky form some of the most valuable on the market. There are many areas that Gambling Theory does not touch but do not let that deter you from getting hold of a copy.

RATING………8.5/10
