Advice from the pro's
One of the key areas studied by professional sports bettors is momentum. You may have watched a certain sporting event and seen violent shifts in momentum, you know it is happening when it is happening but from a betting perspective then you need to try and deduce when something is likely to happen. A classic case in point was the 2005 Champions League final when Liverpool came from 3-0 down at half-time to win the game on penalties.
As soon as Liverpool made it 3-1 then it was clear that Milan were panicking and were no longer the same team and we were no longer looking at the same match in terms of what had happened in the first half. The momentum had shifted and with it the course of the match. Several key examples have occured during the current Australian Open in Melbourne in matches where the favourite lost the opening two sets to the underdog or the opening set if it was in the womens best of three matches.
Then when the underdog had chances to win the match in the next set and lost it you could feel the momentum shift and this can provide for very good betting opportunities. Last nights Copa del Rey game between Barcelona and Real Madrid is another example. Even though Real were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate, battling back from a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 in the Nou Camp will give them confidence that will carry through into their league fixtures. Sometimes defeats can be great spurs and Real having to play fewer matches between now and the end of the season than Barcelona could be another momentum shift in their favour for a league title success.
